From Saturday, August 30 through Monday, September 2, 2024, REC Networks will be conducting major maintenance on web applications as part of the System 40 conversion. This will result in some interruptions and nonworking functionality on otherwise working sites.
Transition of main recnet.com website
We will be changing the destination of the main recnet.com website to the new server running Drupal 10. During the weekend, users may experience complete outages or issues with SSL (warnings that the site being accessed is insecure). Where the old site had a color scheme of blue and white, the new site will have a black and white color scheme.
Some minor functions of the site may not be available on day one.
Due to security limitations in Drupal 10, REC will be doing a new approach to displaying various interactive (toybox) applications that will involve using adjustable sized iframes. At the outset, the display of the site may be difficult on small screen mobile devices. We will work to make improvements on this as development continues.
Mapping support transition
We will also be moving the scripts that are used to generate the mapping to the new server over the long weekend. During the transition, users may experience times when maps will not display. This will be similar to an unintended incident that took place earlier this week.
Any REC site that uses Open Layers or Google mapping may be impacted. This includes, but is not limited to:
- FCCdata.org
- myLPFM
- FMMAP
- Filing Window Tracking System
- LPFM.us
- CountyWAR
Viasat compatibility
With the move of recnet.com and the mapping to System40, this may restore your ability to view these sites. We do note that some linked or embedded content that may still reside on the legacy server may not be accessible and will result in either no content when a link is clicked or a corrupted presentation. This weekend's transition is the first of many and once completed over time, we expect that all REC content will be available to Viasat customers.
Updates and unscheduled transition activity
While we will make efforts to post on this System40 project page, faster updates to development will be made to the REC Networks Facebook Page (facebook.com/recnet). We strongly suggest that you visit and "like" that page to receive updates.
Transition Updates
08/30/2024 08:00AM EDT - The DNS for recnet.com, www.recnet.com, gis.recnet.net (which manages the mapping) have been changed to the Sys40 server. New SSL certificates have been established. We note that it may take time for these changes to propagate through the internet to other domain name servers. During this period, you may experience:
- SSL browser warnings ("this site may be insecure"). If you get this, you may use the override to safely proceed to the site.
- Blank maps on FCCdata and other map-based REC pages.
For recnet.com, if you receive a website that has a black colored theme as opposed to a blue colored theme, then you have successfully reached the System 40 server.
Some things you can try if you are having difficulty:
- Windows users can flush their DNS cache by accessing a command prompt (windows-R) and then on the DOS prompt, type ipconfig /flushdns
- In your browser, clear your cache, exit the browser completely and then restart the browser. (There is no need to delete the cookies)
- In rare cases when all else fails, you can do the old tech support meme of exiting out of everything, rebooting the computer and starting over again.
Please stay tuned to this page and to the REC Facebook page (facebook.com/recnet) for updates.
08/30/2024 09:15 AM EDT - Established new virtual host jingles.j1fm.tokyo to support future content offerings.
08/30/2024 11:45 AM EDT - recnet.ie has been repointed to System40 and certificates obtained. recnet.co.uk has been repointed to System40 but DNS has not fully propagated yet for certs.
The REC legacy Drupal 7 content site is now reachable by legacy.recnet.com. This URL will be reachable through most of the transition however the information will not be updated. We suggest that you only use the legacy URL when absolutely necessary.
Resolved an issue with the interim connection from Sys40 to the legacy database. Should be OK now.
08/30/2024 11:55 AM EDT - recnet.co.uk certificates added.
08/30/2024 11:30 PM EDT - Copied all non-obsolete web content from Legacy to Sys40. For Sunday, we will be doing the audit on the Legacy Apache server to identify "stray" items in the configuration.
